HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised after an RNLI station opened its doors to the public.
Barmouth RNLI held another successful ‘Come Visit us Day’ on Sunday, 29 July.
Organised by visits officer Eve Williams with the help of many of the crew, members of the public were invited to come to the lifeboat house to see the boats at first hand.
The crew had their work cut out guiding hundreds of visitors, young and old, through the station.
Each had the chance to view the two lifeboats and the tractors, to examine the equipment and to meet and speak with volunteer crew members to learn exactly what happens on a lifeboat shout.
The fund-raisers worked hard selling refreshments and cakes, and goody bags of RNLI souvenirs were handed out.
The event is held annually to raise awareness of the importance of the RNLI in our seaside community, to thank the public for their support, both locally and nationally, and to give them an insight into how their donations are used.
Admission was free and, although this is not designed to be a fund-raising event, donations made by generous members of the public on the day amounted to over £600 being raised - all helping provide a first class service to save lives at sea.
This week’s north editions are in shops and online now
