PUPILS in Meirionnydd have been learning what constitutes a hate crime.

On Friday, 17 October, Year 10 pupils at Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn studied the ‘Save Me’ lesson, relating to diversity issues, part of the All Wales School Liaison Core Programme.

With the government considering broadening the law to include hate crimes on the basis of age and gender, as well as race, religion, sexuality and disability, the lesson enforces the understanding that hate crimes will not be tolerated and victims will be supported.

A spokesperson for the school said: “Many thanks to PC John, the School Community Police Officer, for a very thought provoking lesson.”
