A LACK of firefighters in Porthmadog has sparked safety concerns.
And there are fears that the lack of firefighters could lead to the closure of Porthmadog station, where there are now just six crew members.
Cllr Jason Humphreys, who has long fought for additional firefighters in the town, said: “With the station unable to respond to some calls and the entire fire service under review, I have some very deep fears.
The survival of the Porthmadog station is imperative.”
Gwynedd councillor Selwyn Griffiths was equally perturbed.
“I am very concerned about the low staffing level at Porthmadog and its consequences,” he said.
“Due to the low number of personnel the Porthmadog station sometimes can’t respond to call-outs which means that the fire service has to call the Pwllheli or Harlech stations.
The North Wales Fire and Rescue Service has said it is currently recruiting staff for the station.
