SEVEN people were hospitalised - two with serious injuries - following a collision on the A487 near Cross Foxes on Sunday afternoon.
Police are currently appealing for witnesses following a crash on the A487 at around 4pm on Sunday afternoon between a Renault Clio and a Mini.
Two people had to be airlifted to hospital and the road had to be closed for six hours as police investigated.
Firefighters were called to cut some of those injured from the wreckage of their cars, with two passengers in the Clio airlifted to Aintree Hospital, in Liverpool.
Five other people, including both drivers, were rushed to Bronglais Hospital or Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
The Cambrian News understands that at least some of the casualties involved were from the local area.
Chief Inspector Owain Llewelyn was keen to determine what had caused the incident.
“A number of casualties have been taken to hospital with serious injuries,” he said.
“We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage to please come forward.
“Anyone with any information is urged to call 101 quoting reference W178635.”
A spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed: “We were called to the incident on the A487 near Cross Foxes, Dolgellau, at approximately 3.35pm on Sunday, 16 December.
“We responded with a rapid response vehicle and five emergency ambulances. North Wales air ambulance also attended.
“Two patients were airlifted to Aintree Hospital, while three were taken by ambulance to Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth and another two were taken by ambulance to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital.”
The crash took place just a few miles away from the site of a fatal crash on the A470 approaching Dolgellau where 18-year-old Ryan John Craddock lost his life in July 2018.
