POLICE have confirmed that the injuries of a man and a child who were hit by a car outside Morrisons in Aberystwyth this morning are not thought to be life-threatening.

A man and his son are believed to have been injured in the crash involving a red Peugeot just before lunchtime today (Friday) right in front of the store’s front doors.The car is also understood to have knocked down three bollards and the area was cordoned off by police.Police have since issued the following statement: “At approximately 11.20am a road traffic collision was reported at Morrisons, Aberystwyth.“A Peugeot 108 had collided with two pedestrians – one male adult and a child. Ambulance attended, [there are] not believed to be any life-threatening injuries.”Betty Jones, who was loading her shopping into her car just feet away when it happened, said: “I thought it was a bomb. I heard a big bang. I saw a boy. His father had been knocked down. The little boy was crying. You could hear it from afar.”There is some confusion at present about how the crash happened.Witnesses said the car was being driven by an elderly motorist who was put into a wheelchair by the ambulance team after the crash.The air ambulance arrived at the scene ten minutes after the call.An adult male and a child were rushed away by ambulance following the accident.Morrisons staff directed the Cambrian News to head office for a comment.Emergency services including four police cars, ambulances and an air ambulance rushed to the scene. The area was cordoned off by police.
