THIEVES have stolen a series of painstakingly crafted woollen goods.

Llwyngwril attracts hundreds of visitors a year as tourists pop by to see the various yarnbombing displays throughout the town.

However, due to callous criminals, several of the displays have gone missing, including a five-foot knitted dragon.

The displays, believed to have been stolen last Wednesday (9 August), were handmade by the village’s yarnbombing group with all proceeds from the pieces going towards the upkeep of Llwyngwril’s Canolfan.

Pat Griffiths, one of the yarnbombers, was distraught - especially since Gwril the Giant, who guards the village’s bridge, was stolen last year.

“Thieves have struck again,” she said.

“About six items this time, they must have come prepared with car or van plus knife and scissors.

“Its just so annoying when it takes so much money, time and effort to make these things.

“It always seems to be the same lady who is targeted, she made Gwril and the lovely sheep and dog that were stolen last year.

“It makes you wonder why you bother.

“But then you know why when you see all the really nice messages of support from everyone which makes it worth it - it is very disheartening though”

A spokesperson for North Wales Police confirmed the crime: “An unknown offender has stolen a large knitted dragon, part of village decorations/fund-raising and other knitted items such as a full sized sheep, ladybird, life sized Pied Piper and rats.

“We are appealing for witnesses, if anyone has any information pertaining to the case please call 101 and quote reference number V121553.”See this week's north editions for the full story, in shops and online on Thursday
