THREE people were taken to hospital by ambulance on Sunday afternoon following an incident at a ‘Classic Scrambling’ event at Penparc.

One of the casualties was airlifted to Morriston Hospital in Swansea by air ambulance, while the other two were taken to Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen.

The Cambrian News understands the incident happened during a round of the Welsh Championship Classic Scramble at Crugmore Farm when three sidecars collided at the start of a race.

Phil Davies, secretary of the Tivyside Motor Club, said: “Two of the sidecars came together when one turned across the other’s path. Both machines threw their passengers off and unfortunately a third sidecar then ran over one of the ladies who was lying on the ground.”

He said the race was suspended while the casualties received treatment at the scene. One woman was airlifted to Morriston with a suspected broken pelvis while the other casualties were taken by road to Glangwili.

“I’m afraid accidents are part and parcel of the sport,” added Mr Davies. “We’ve had small incidents before, such as people riding into posts, but never a collision of this nature.”

He added that a report on the incident was being prepared.

Mid and West Wales Ambulance Service and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue were called to the scene at about 1pm.
