Storm Christoph is causing traffic chaos across Mid Wales with fire crews attending a number of callouts and several roads impassable.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Service confirmed, at 7.30am, fire crews from Machynlleth were called to assist a member of the public whose vehicle had become stuck in three foot of water.

At 8.40am crews were also called to a property in Derwenlas to assist with external flooding that was at risk of entering a property.

Lloyds Coaches have temporarily suspended some services, the X28, X29, 30 and 34, due to the road closures in Llanwrin, Bryncrug, and Derwenlas. Their T2 services is diverting via the A470 Dinas Mawddwy and cannot serve Machynlleth and Aberystwyth.

Ceredigion County Council confirmed the C1010 Penrhyncoch, from the A487 to the A4159, is currently closed due to flooding.

Powys County Council also confirmed the A487 Dyfi Bridge has been closed, as well as a road closure on the A483 in both directions due to the closure of the bridge in Builth Wells.

A spokesperson for Powys Council said: “Storm Christoph is causing river levels to rise throughout Powys. The situation is being monitored closely across the county. Our crews are on standby and ready to close roads if needed.

“We would urge people if they need to drive, that they do so safely and follow any diversion signs.”
