TRIBUTES have been paid after a woman and her five-year-old grandson from Capel Bangor tragically died in a serious road crash on Good Friday.
Widow Margaretta Jones, 77, and her grandson Ned Jones died at the scene following the two-vehicle crash which happened on the A470 at around 11.40am.
Two occupants of the second car, Vida Alford, 86, and Gillian Alford, 58, from Shropshire, also died in the crash between Rhayader and Llangurig, while a 57-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries.
Bleddyn Jones, the father of Ned and Mrs Jones’ son, is a former player of Aberystwyth Rugby Club. Mrs Jones also leaves three other sons.
Clive Williams, headteacher of Ysgol Gymraeg, which Ned attended, said: “The school community has been saddened and shocked by the sudden death of Ned Jones.
“We will remember him as a dear and popular member of the reception class. We extend our deepest sympathy to the family.”
Dyfed-Powys Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Anyone who saw either of these vehicles prior to the incident on Friday and has information which could assist with the ongoing investigation is asked to contact Dyfed-Powys Police on 101.
