Barmouth RNLI rushed to the aid of two young girls who became stuck on rocks near Llanaber over the Easter break.
Following a request for help at 12.53pm on Sunday, 21 April, Barmouth volunteer lifeboat crew launched D class inshore lifeboat (ILB) Craig Steadman to reports of two young girls stuck on rocks near Llanaber railway bridge.
In calm seas and brilliant sunshine, RNLI volunteers who had been training on all-weather lifeboat Ella Larsen switched lifeboats and headed towards Llanaber and were on scene within 10 minutes. On arrival at the scene the tide was ebbing, but the conditions made it difficult for the inshore lifeboat to approach the girls.
In communication with Barmouth Coastguard the RNLI volunteer crew stood by waiting for the tide to drop, which allowed the coastguard team to safely walk the girls back along the rocks where they were returned to their awaiting family. The coastguard rescue 936 helicopter was also deployed but was stood down as there was no need to winch the girls to safety.
RNLI volunteer crew member Dan Cartwright (pictured), at the helm of the D-class lifeboat Craig Steadman for his first call out said: “As it was my first shout as a helm it was great to have crew on board that were ready to act swiftly if we were needed. A good job from all involved.”
