ABERYSTWYTH promenade remains closed to traffic this afternoon following a fire.

Emergency services were called to Marine Terrace just after 10am this morning following a fourth floor fire in a block of flats on the seafront.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 10:09am this morning, Monday 16th August 2021, crews from Aberystwyth, Aberaeron and Tregaron attended a property fire in Marine Terrace, Aberystwyth.

"The fire involved a fourth floor flat, within a five-floor building measuring approximately six metres by 15 metres, and was extinguished by crews using eight breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, two thermal imaging cameras and a turn table ladder.

All persons within the building were accounted for.

"The Fire Service left the incident with the police at 1:05pm."

Dyfed Powys Police added: "We had a report just before 10.30am this morning, of a property on fire in Marine Terrace, Aberystwyth.

"The road is closed while emergency services are at the scene."

The road was still cordoned off at 2pm this afternoon with Ceredigion County Council putting diversions in place.
