POLICE are investigating after a woman's body was discovered following a house fire in Abermagwr yesterday morning.
The body was found after Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service tackled the blaze, which was reported at approximately 10.40am.
Police confirmed they are investigating in order to establish the identity of the body, and have informed the next of kin of the occupant of the house and the coroner for Ceredigion Peter Brunton.
It understood that MAWWFRS are investigating the cause of the fire.
A fire service spokesperson said: "On Wednesday, 12 January, at 10.36am, crews from Aberystwyth, Tregaron and Aberaeron were called to a fire at a property in Abermagwr, Aberystwyth.
"Unfortunately, a female was found to have died at the property.
"The incident is being investigated by the police and fire service.
"Firefighters extinguished the fire using ten breathing apparatus, three hose reel jets, a safety jet, a positive pressure ventilation fan, short extension ladder and small gear. The firefighting concluded at 2.51pm"
A police spokesperson said: “Dyfed-Powys Police are investigating following a house fire that was reported in the Trawscoed area of Aberystwyth at approximately 10.40am yesterday morning.
“[The] fire service were at the scene tackling the blaze.
“Tragically, a body was discovered inside the property and police investigations continue in order to formally identify the body.
“Next of kin of the occupant and HM Coroner for Ceredigion have been informed of the incident.”
