An 87-year-old woman has been airlifted to hospital following an emergency in Tywyn.

The air ambulance, Welsh Ambulance Service and coastguard teams from Borth and Aberdyfi were called to Tywyn beach yesterday morning following reports of an injured female there.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called on Sunday, 22 November at approximately 9.04am to reports of a person needing urgent medical attention on a beach in Tywyn.

“We responded with one emergency ambulance and our crew received the support of the coastguards.

“One patient was transported by air ambulance to Ysbyty Gwynedd.”

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard Mid and NW Wales said: “The incident started at 9.20am and ended at 11.20am yesterday following a call from a member of the public reporting an 87-year-old female who has become injured.

“Due to incoming tide the casualty was stretchered off the beach and moved to the promenade by the Coastguard and First Responder.

“An ambulance and Caernarfon SAR helicopter were requested and the casualty transferred by helicopter to hospital.”

Aberdyfi Coastguard said on Facebook: “Coastguard rescue teams were tasked to an injured female at Tywyn beach along with the Welsh Ambulance and Caernarfon SAR helicopter.

“Casualty transferred to hospital by helicopter.”

The coastguard wish the casualty, who has not been named, “a speedy recovery”.

Her condition is not known.
