A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital in Stoke after suffering serious injuries in a car crash near Criccieth on Friday, 27 July.

The woman, who was a passenger in one of the two cars involved in the crash on the A497, is believed to still be in hospital following the crash. Police are appealing for witnesses and information.

The crash happened at around 9.45am on the A497 in Llanystumdwy and involved a blue Vauxhall Vectra, which the woman was travelling in, and a white Mercedes.

Five other casualties - the male driver of the Vectra and two children, as well as the male driver and passenger of the Mercedes - were all taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor with what were described as minor injuries.

The crash led to the A497 being closed for several hours while an investigation by the Forensic Collision Investigation Team took place.

Speaking on Friday, Sgt Emlyn Hughes, of North Wales Police’s Roads Policing Unit, said: “The road remains closed at this time whilst the Forensic Collision Investigation Team carry out an examination of the scene.

“We are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have seen either vehicle being driven prior to the collision, to contact us.”

A spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service said several ambulances attended the crash scene.

They said: “We were called to the A497 near Bont Fechan around 9.45am following reports of a serious road traffic incident.

“A number of emergency ambulances were sent to the scene, supported by Air Ambulance.

Patients were transported by emergency ambulance to Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital, and by air ambulance to North Staffs City Hospital.”

The road was reopened at 3.45pm.
