A BORTH woman found to be over the drink-drive limit as she drove to work hadn’t realised alcohol would stay in her system from the night before, magistrates have heard.
Susan Angela Jones, of Penlôn, Wallog, pleaded guilty to drink-driving after readings showed she was above the alcohol limit when she was stopped at around 8.30am on 16 August.
Prosecutor Kevin Challinor said Jones was stopped on Clarach Road by a police officer who asked Jones, 40, to take a breath test after the officer said he smelt alcohol.
Jones failed the breath test and a test at Aberystwyth Police Station showed that Jones had 48 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
Defence solicitor Alison Mathias said Jones was “embarrassed” at appearing in court and was apologetic.
She said Jones had not realised the alcohol would still be in her system after she had been drinking the night before while watching coverage of the Olympics.
Ms Mathias said Jones had thought that after sleeping and several hours having passed she would be legal to drive.
Jones was fined £350 and will pay costs of £120. She was banned from driving for 12-months.
