Emergency services were called to Cader Idris last week after a woman suffered from a leg injury whilst scaling the peak.

Aberdyfi Search and Rescue were alerted to an injured woman just above Cader’s Minffordd steps at 4.15pm on Thursday, 4 July.

The woman, who is in her late 60s and comes from the Aberystwyth area, was on her way towards Llyn Cau with a small party of other walkers when she slipped and landed heavily on her back at around 8am.

She continued to make her way up Cader Idris after a brief moment of recovery but began to develop a progressive pain in her upper leg, which made it increasingly difficult to bear weight on and hindered her progress up the mountain.

After receiving assistance from helpful passers-by, Mountain Rescue was called and a group of volunteers arrived at the scene to address the situation.

They decided to carry the walker down the mountain by stretcher, with 12 volunteers descending the steep and rugged terrain with caution.

Aberdyfi Search and Rescue reported that everyone involved made it down safely by 7.15pm.

Graham O’Hanlon, a volunteer from the team who attended the rescue said: “We were greatly impressed by the level of support given to this lady by passers-by, and would like to pass on her thanks to everyone who assisted her in getting off the mountain.”

The woman was driven to Bronglais Hospital afterwards for further assessment and treatment.
