A SPIKE in abandoned vehicles around Aberystwyth is taking up valuable town centre parking spaces, a councillor has claimed.

Cllr Ceredig Davies, who has reported one car, a silver Rover on Portland Street, which he says has been there since December, said he found it “very frustrating” to see abandoned vehicles “everywhere” in the town.

Three other vehicles were also reported to the council last week through the Fix My Street website — a blue Volkswagen van and a silver Jaguar, both on Upper Great Darkgate Street near the entrance to the castle grounds, and a black Renault Clio at Coleg Ceredigion, Llanbadarn Fawr.

“They are everywhere,” he told the Cambrian News this week. “As a councillor representing the people in town, I find it very frustrating on behalf of residents. Some of these cars have flat tyres and there is grass growing under them. The one on Portland Street has been there since December.

“These cars are taking up valuable parking spaces and can be left for months. They are also an eyesore.

“Parking in the town centre is already limited and these cars shouldn’t even be on the road.”

And Cllr Davies, who represents Aberystwyth Central ward, is calling on residents to check whether vehicles they suspect of being abandoned are road legal and, if not, to report them to the council.
