THE Aberystwyth area would be a “natural home” for the 2020 National Eisteddfod, the town’s mayor has said.

Ceredigion Council is set to ask town and community councils across the county to identify potential sites to suggest to the Eisteddfod Board with a requirement for a site totalling 140 acres.

Endaf Edwards, the mayor of Aberystwyth said, while he personally would support the event being held in the Aberystwyth area, it would need to be discussed by the full Aberystwyth Town Council and the site requirements would make it unlikely that there would be anywhere suitable in the Aberystwyth Town Council area.

But Cllr Edwards said he would like to see the 2020 National Eisteddfod in the Aberystwyth area.

He said: “Aberystwyth Town Council has not considered this issue yet, but will when we receive the letter from Ceredigion Council."
