AN ABERYSTWYTH rock project has scooped a prestigious industry prize.

The Rock Project Aberystwyth has just been named Prestige Awards Music Provider of the Year for all of Wales.

The contemporary music school teaches youngsters aged 7-16 as well as adults how to play guitar, bass, drums and sing, before creating their own bands and performing in gigs at sessions in Aberystwyth weekly.

On choosing the Rock Project the judges said: “We can see you have focused on building a team of professionals who are passionate about inspiring others to enjoy music and learn in fun and original ways at speeds they are comfortable with.

“The videos and social media content were so helpful in getting a good understanding of how you work and also the online sessions- which I am pleased were successful. You have clearly created a fantastic environment for young and older musicians to develop and have an enjoyable ride along the way.

“We’re very pleased to recognise your hard work.”

Lisa Wordley who runs the Rock Project Aberystwyth said: “We were delighted to receive the phone call telling us that we had won this award, it’s fantastic to get this sort of recognition particularly after the last few years being so hard for all of us, its just a little bit of a confirmation that other people see what it is that you are trying to do.”

To celebrate, the students have been working on a song and accompanying video which was recorded at one of the live sessions.

Lisa said: “The Aberystwyth students are always such good fun when it comes to performing, they nailed the recording of the song on the very first go which considering a lot of them only joined this term was amazing.”

Sessions which run at Buarth Hall on Tuesdays start at 4:30pm and are suitable for ages 7+ and adults get a lesson with a professional musician on their chosen instrument and then play with your fellow students as a band every week.
