THE organisers of Aberystwyth and Ceredigion County Show have cancelled this year’s event because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Aberystwyth and Ceredigion County Show was due to take place at Lovesgrove on 13 June 2020, but in a statement this afternoon (Thursday), show chairman, Emlyn Jones, said: "After much deliberation, the committee has come to the difficult decision to cancel this year’s show due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
"To many of you, this news might be disappointing and hasty, but rest assured that this decision was not taken lightly.
"Government guidelines indicate that COVID-19 will still be very active within our communities in June, and with this in mind, our priority is to safeguard public health.
"The 2020 Show has already incurred initial costs but it was felt by cancelling early amidst the current uncertainties, we can safeguard ourselves from a financial disaster.
"To put things in context, we are still recovering economically from the cancellation of the 2012 Show due to extensive flooding in north Ceredigion.
"We hope that you understand the unprecedented circumstances in which we find ourselves. Thank you for your continued support and understanding and we look forward to welcoming you on 12th June 2021, where we will be celebrating our 75th Show."
