Bowling club
DUE TO bad weather and illness the rearranged AGM was poorly attended. President Richie Williams asked members to stand in silence to remember those associated with the club who had died during the year. In his report he thanked the officers, committee members and others who had worked hard for the club. Sue Mount was given special thanks for organising the successful annual dinner and presentation evening. The men’s captain, Barrie Fowles, found that it had been a difficult year. It was often a struggle to field teams in the league at certain times of the year and they were unable to compete in the league cup competition. However, the team had won six out of the seven matches after a poor start. They finished third in the Montgomeryshire League Division Two, with an overall record of winning eight and losing four. The president was thanked for his excellent work on the green and for helping with the team selections.Sue Mount, the ladies captain, was very pleased that new members had joined the club and they were very keen and enthusiastic. There were not sufficient members yet to form a team to play in the league because so many ladies had now retired. It is possible that the club may field a mixed team in the Friday league for next year. Nonmembers may come along next season and try bowls for four sessions with tuition free of charge. The treasurer was absent because of illness, but his detailed report was accepted by the meeting. It showed a healthy financial position due to various successful initiatives.Brian Whelham, a representative of the Montgomeryshire County Bowling Association, referred in his report to proposed changes to the rules about games called off due to bad weather. Powys County Council is now taking over responsibility for the training of child protection officers. The committee in the 2016 season will be made up of: President, Richie Williams; men’s captain, Barrie Fowles; men’s vice-captain, Mark Lawton; ladies captain, Sue Mount; ladies vice-captain, vacancy; treasurer, John Griffiths; secretary, Peter Jones; and two other members, George Fleming and Brian Whelham. The date of the next AGM is Tuesday, 15 November, at 7pm in the clubhouse.
