ABERYSTWYTH Carnival will not go ahead this year, it has been announced.

The carnival has grown in popularity since its triumphant comeback in 2012, thanks to the hard work of Wendy Morris and a team of volunteers and committee members.

But Wendy, who has now moved to Australia, announced last week that 2018’s event has had to be cancelled.

It is hoped that the carnival will return in 2019.

“Carnifal Tref Aberystwyth Town Carnival will take a break this year but will be back next year,” she said on Facebook.

“Thanks to those that offered to assist, but logistically trying to organise this and get everything in place in time just isn’t achievable.

“Paul Tedaldi and I apologise but we will be back hopefully with a full active committee for 2019. Diolch pawb.

“People and groups with the carnival shields, please hold onto them for another year.”

When the carnival returned in 2012 after a break of more than a decade, it saw a parade through the town and stalls lined up along the promenade.

There was no hint of a problem at last year’s carnival when the theme for 2018’s fancy dress was announced as Disney.

But Wendy, who still helped to organise last year’s event despite moving to Australia at the start of the year, said this year’s event was not feasible.

“Unfortunately due to there only being two committee members left on the carnival, Paul Tedaldi and myself, logistically trying to organise the event was unachievable this year,” she said.

“I’d like to thank all previous committee members, as they were all volunteers who gave huge amounts of their own time to make the carnival such a success.

“We have to start planning and putting things in place ideally from September for the July event."
