An exhibition celebrating the work and life of Aberystwyth photographer Tony Hicklin has raised over £1,700.
The exhibition took place at the Bandstand on 1 August to raise stroke awareness and funds for the Stroke Association.
The event was organised in memory of Tony Hicklin, a much-loved patron of Aberystwyth Camera Club, whose kindness, enthusiasm and encouragement made a lasting impression on local photographers and friends.
Tony died from a pulmonary embolism a few days after having a stroke while test driving a new car. Having recently seen two camera club friends survive strokes, Tony was aware of the warning signs and understood the importance of acting quickly. When he felt unwell, he alerted the car salesman who called an ambulance, but Tony could not be saved.
His family and friends from Aberystwyth Camera Club wanted to honour his memory in a way that celebrated both life and his love of photography, while also supporting a cause deeply meaningful to them.
The exhibition brought together a selection of photographic artwork, offering visitors the chance to enjoy and purchase images by Tony and local photographers.
An amazing £1,718 raised on the day will go to the Stroke Association, helping to support its ongoing work with stroke survivors, families and communities.
Tony’s daughter Danni said: “The exhibition brought us as a family closer to dad and we will always remember that day and the hard work that went into it.”
Friend, event organiser and Aberystwyth Camera Club member Lonnie Morris said: “It was a fantastic celebration of the life and photography of Tony, our dear friend.
“The love in the room was palpable and I was overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the public. I think we did him proud.
“The Stroke Association presence encouraged the many donations.”
