Editor,

Following the positive announcement of the approval of the new Dyfi Bridge, I could not believe last week’s negative front-page headline, ‘Road chaos fears over work on new bridge’.

The work has not even started, and the Cambrian News is highlighting issues and problems which I’m sure the contractors are already aware of.

According to the Welsh Assembly more than £70 million is being spent upgrading Mid Wales roads from 2018 to 2020 – it’s about time some of it is spent in Machynlleth.

We have seen the Newtown bypass completed last year and the Glandyfi road widening scheme back in 2011 – yes, all these works caused some disruption and delays – however, the economic benefits these schemes have brought to the area far outweigh the delays we have to put up with.

We need to focus on the future of Mid Wales and improve connectivity between North and South Wales – Machynlleth is one of the missing links, so let’s look at this scheme as a positive step forward for the area.
