A PORTHMADOG woman who scooped a prestigious award for fostering over 100 children has been praised by councillors.
Janet Williams won the Citizenship award at this year’s St David’s Awards in Cardiff.
As well as bringing up her own three children, she has fostered more than 100 children over the last 35 years, even going as far as adopting and has made a real difference to the lives of children who could not, for whatever reason, live with their own families.
Janet, 70, was recently invited to a Porthmadog Town Council meeting where she was presented with flowers and received a round of applause for her recent win and for her work in the community and in fostering.
Cllr Selwyn Griffiths, chair of the town council, said: “It’s an honour to have Janet here at our Porthmadog Town Council meeting.
“We are very happy for Janet and it’s lovely that we have someone like her in our community.
“Janet is part of Porthmadog and I’m extremely happy she has been recognised for the work she has done in the community, not just fostering, but fundraising also over the years.
“It’s incredible to think she has looked after over 100 children, many I’m sure that still call her mum."
