A HIGH-FLYING former Coleg Meirion Dwyfor student of the year has graduated as a pilot officer with the Royal Air Force.

Naomi Wood, 24, of Rhoslefain near Tywyn, passed out of Cranwell college last month after 30 weeks of intense initial officer training.

Notably Miss Wood was also selected for the RAF Club Prize, an honour awarded to the officer cadet who has shown “unwavering perseverance” during their training.

As a result of her recognition, the recently graduated pilot officer was selected to represent the Royal Air Force at a wreath laying ceremony in Arnhem in the Netherlands.

The 24-year-old had previously enjoyed a successful education in Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn and Coleg Meirion Dwyfor – where she was awarded student of the year following her exemplary A Level results – before completing her Economics and Politics degree in Southampton University.

During her time on the south coast Miss Wood joined Southampton University Air Squadron (SUAS) on the look out for adventure.

Previously Miss Wood had worked with both the Outward Bound Trust in Aberdyfi as well as the area’s mountain rescue team and always had an affection for the outdoors.
