An Aberystwyth-based charity has received a prestigious Gold Award recognising its work supporting unpaid carers across West Wales and surroundings.

Age Cymru Dyfed was presented with the Investors in Carers Gold Award during a celebration at Parc Dewi Sant in Carmarthenshire on Tuesday, 27 October.

The ceremony brought together organisations from Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, recognising their contributions to identifying and supporting people who care for family members, friends and loved ones.

Five representatives from Age Cymru Dyfed attended, including Chief Executive Simon Wright, trustee Caroline Streek and Ceredigion Befriending Life Links Coordinator Jonathan Cook.

They were joined by Befriending Life Links Project Manager Jeremy Hewitt and Pembrokeshire coordinator Trevor Taylor.

During the ceremony, Mr Cook delivered a presentation outlining the organisation's approach to supporting unpaid carers and the progress made since achieving its Silver Award.

He highlighted the importance of recognising carers early and ensuring staff are equipped to identify people who may need support.

The charity employs three dedicated Carer Leads who provide advice and practical assistance while helping other services understand the challenges carers face.

Its work also includes befriending, digital support and information services, designed to help carers access assistance and remain connected with their communities.

Age Cymru Dyfed said the Gold Award reflected the dedication of its staff, volunteers and partner organisations.

The charity emphasised that unpaid carers often balance caring responsibilities with their own wellbeing, employment and everyday commitments, these often come at the expense of other important aspects of life.

It said recognising carers and ensuring they can access appropriate support remained a priority.

The organisation will continue its work as an Investors in Carers Ambassador, promoting awareness and encouraging other services to improve the support available.

Age Cymru Dyfed operates across the three counties, with its Aberystwyth office based on Pier Street.
