ABERYSTWYTH’S well-known Air Cadet commander could become a less familiar face, if fund-raisers can reach the £1,000 barrier.

Flight Lieutenant Clive Parker has agreed to shave off his famous moustache if fund-raisers from the squadron’s Civilian Committee manage to raise £1,000.

Mr Parker, who has had his moustache since he was 18, volunteered to have it removed to help raise funds for equipment for the cadets.

He said: “There are now very few people around that would remember me clean shaven and certainly nobody around Aberystwyth.

“Several months ago I offered to shave my facial hair if the committee would raise £1,000 for the squadron funds, and this appeal has now spread.”

Eifion Parry, the squadron adjutant, said the honour of shaving off Mr Parker’s moustache would be auctioned off as part of the fundraising efforts, but admitted that it would be a surprise to see him without it.

He said: “I have known Clive personally for over 30 years and I have never known him without his old faithful moustache."
