A LLANRHYSTUD woman has pledged to raise £4,000 for Cancer Research Wales after losing her dad to the disease and watching a friend currently battling breast cancer.
Ali Wright, who runs Needle Rock furniture repair and upholstery service in the village, will continue her fundraising efforts after signing up to undertake walking the Machu Picchu Inca Trail Trek in Peru in September this year.
Among her fundraising efforts over the past month, Ali took part in the Cambrian News 10k race.
Despite, by her own admission, not being a “natural runner”, Ali completed the course in one hour and 12 minutes, a time she said she was “rather proud” of.
“Like many of us, I have lost many close members of my family to this dreadful disease including my dad and his two siblings,” Ali said.
“I am also supporting a dear friend who is currently fighting breast cancer – she has just started an intensive course of radiotherapy in Singleton Hospital - and my auntie has recently had her bowel removed.
“All in all, we are all now directly affected by this disease and the more research that can be carried out, hopefully the chances of us all living longer and fuller lives will be improved.”
