Much praise is owed to Cllr Gruff Williams for voting against the planning proposal for 15 new homes on the former Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor hockey field at Allt Salem, Pwllheli. The astute councillor felt that road safety would be compromised if this housing development was allowed on a narrow, single-track road.

It is common knowledge that local authorities have statutory responsibilities regarding road safety, especially for pedestrians.

Allt Salem does not a suitable access road. Extra traffic is not acceptable on this steeply winding, narrow, busy hill, which is already not fit for purpose because it lacks a footway.

It is pavement-less for 400 metres and is used by over 200 sixth-form students.
