ALMOST £25,000 has been raised in a matter of days for the grieving family of an Aberystwyth rugby legend.
Eifion Gwynne, 41, who leaves his wife, Nia, and three children, Mabli, Modlen and Idris, died after being struck by a car after attending a funeral in Spain.
In just a few days, more than £24,700 has been raised for Eifion’s family after an online fund-raising campaign which went viral, and a night of fund-raising at Llandovery RFC, where the Drovers recorded a 37-3 victory over Pontypridd following an emotional minute’s silence.
And Eifion, who was involved in the accident after attending the funeral of family friend Emrys Thomas, was remembered by the Welsh Rugby Union ahead of Wales’ clash with Australia at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday. A picture of Eifion was flashed up on the stadium screens and a tribute was made.
The JustGiving page, called Cronfa Goffa Eifion Gwynne Memorial Fund, smashed its target of raising £5,000 in just two days and has now raised more than £12,700 since last Tuesday.
More than 300 people have donated, with one anonymous donor giving a massive £1,000.
It has been confirmed that Eifion’s funeral will be held at Capel y Morfa, Portland Street, Aberystwyth at 1pm on Saturday, 12 November, with a wake to follow at Aberystwyth Rugby Club from 2.30pm.
