AN ECO WARRIOR surfer who lost his leg in a skateboarding accident is inspiring people across the Llyn Peninsula to clean up their local beaches.
Llywelyn Williams, 22, lost his leg, then aged 16, after a collision with a car.
Despite losing a leg, Llywelyn persisted with his love of surfing and is now rated as the UK’s adaptive surf champion, travelling the world to challenge some of the finest competitors.
His latest challenge however, is far closer to home.
Llywelyn recently put a plea out for people to come and help do a beach clean, due to the amount of plastic and rubbish on the Llyn Peninsula, having been moved by the footage on flagship show Blue Planet.
He ended up doing his first beach clean solo, on one leg, hopping and dragging himself up the beach with a binbag, explained his father’s partner Elissa Williams.
She added: “As a result of his efforts there is likely to be a big beach clean, with people inspired to help him!”
Llywelyn took it upon himself to clean up Porth Neigwl, near Abersoch, to do his part to save the environment.
After hearing about “a whole load of rubbish” on the beach, Llywelyn took his quad and trailer to the shore to spend a couple of hours picking up junk.
Speaking after the clean, he said: “Solo beach clean this evening before it got dark. Not much, but feel great after it. The amount of bottle tops along the cliff was insane!
“I need more people to get on board and help and save our seas.”
Llywelyn added: “I’ll organise the next clean up as soon as this wind drops and the weather’s a bit nicer.”
