A PLAQUE portraying the panoramic views surrounding Borth-y-Gest has been vandalised.

The plaque, which was installed in February, had been covered in graffiti by the end of May.

One of the residents who helped to organise the installation of the plaque, told the Cambrian News about the history of the panel and how she feels about it being vandalised.

She said: “I suppose I feel angry and very disappointed that an asset to the village has been treated in this way.

“I’m sad for all those involved really.

“An open gardens event was held in the village in 2019.

“It was decided by the friends committee (a group in the village) to use the funds raised for something for the village.

“A plaque denoting a panoramic view of the mountains across the river estuaries was what was decided upon.

“A local artist Maggie Fulton was asked to make a preliminary drawing and she did this. However, because later she was not in good health it was decided to go another route.

“I had been involved with organising the open garden event, so I took it upon myself to get the project under way.”

She added: “A site for the plaque had been decided. Permission was sought from the council with the help of Selwyn Griffiths for the plaque to be sited.

“I took a series of photographs covering the view from Cnicht to Harlech.

“These photos were stitched together to make one long panorama.

“I traced the outline and had that photocopied and annotated with lots of help from local walkers and experts, to identify the mountain ranges.

“A hard copy from which the masons could work was produced.”

The resident added: “Madog Memorials sourced the slate and did the etching of the annotated panorama and installed the plaque at the site.

“It was installed mid February 2021.

“Many people were involved in producing this plaque and it was hoped that it would be an informative addition to the village.”
