Safety measures are urgently needed on a “dangerous corner” on the A487, but “no-one is listening”, a councillor has said.

The desperate call for safety improvements on the main road north of Aberystwyth comes after the latest crash which led to the tragic death of a teenager.

Ellie Bryan, 18, died on Sunday, 17 November, after the car she was a passenger in was involved in a crash on the A487 at Comins Coch the night before.

That stretch of road also claimed the life earlier this year of Llanbadarn councillor, Paul James, who had been riding a bicycle in training for a charity ride when a crash occurred.

Police are still investigating the cause of that collision and no charges have yet been brought against anyone involved in the incident.

County councillor for Waunfawr, John Roberts, said he has been raising concerns about safety on the stretch of road for 10 years, but said it felt like concerns were being ignored by authorities.

He said: “Once again a tragedy has occurred concerning young lives and parents again grieving for their children.

“I have for 10 years spoken out about this dangerous corner.

“The local authority several years ago commissioned a company to check this road and were told there was nothing wrong with the road.

“The tragedy came up in chamber this week and those present agreed that no-one is listening."

A Welsh Government spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this time.

“Road safety is an important issue and one we take very seriously.

“We are continuing to work alongside partners to make improvements to road safety throughout Wales. The North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency has undertaken a site inspection following this accident.”
