ANGRY residents in Devil’s Bridge are considering direct action over uncollected waste and overflowing bins.
One resident, Sandy Neville, said the Devil’s Bridge area had no refuse collection during the Easter holiday break.
“In fact, for the majority, there has been no collection for over three weeks now,” he added.
“Ceredigion council timetabled scheduled collections but these did not happen because the roads were icy on one collection day and considered too dangerous for the refuse lorry. The roads are icy because gritting is no longer carried out. The school bus, however, is expected to continue using these roads.
“Lack of resources was blamed for subsequent non-collection.
“Devil’s Bridge is an area in which many residents rely on tourism.
"Is this any greeting for them? Residents are now thinking of taking more direct action unless the council acts.
“In this area, we pay just £1.14 a week less for Band D Council Tax than the residents of Aberystwyth, but we receive far less in the way of services. Cwmystwyth, where we live, has no preventative gritting of roads whatsoever, despite a school bus setting off from the village.
“A C class road, serving several properties, is now full of potholes and is crumbling at the edges - this a result of a lack of maintenance.”
He added that a lack of refuse collection, occurring shortly after receiving increased council tax bills, was the last straw.
And he said rubbish bags littering the area recently was no greeting for tourists and holidaymakers.
