DOLGELLAU is gearing up for the annual David Smithies Fun Day with this year’s event promising to be the biggest yet.

A whole host of events will be held on the Marian on Saturday, 4 June, and will be raising money for Sarcoma UK.

David Smithies, 17, of Dolgellau was killed in a car accident in 2006 after his car hit a tree on the road between Tywyn and Dolgellau.

David was the goalkeeper for Dolgellau football club and a member of the town’s cricket club.

David’s brother, Greg, said the family are overwhelmed by the growing support the event is getting each year and how seeing everyone in David Smithies t-shirts makes things a little easier on a very difficult day for the family.

He said: “It’s great how everyone pulls together and comes out to support the day.

“We love seeing people in their David t-shirts and we as a family just want to thank everyone who takes part. People come from all over Meirionnydd and further.

“We are so grateful as a family.”
