COLLECTIONS of silver mounted scent bottles and desk stands and an Australian boomerang were among the diverse items assessed and valued by a team of antiques specialists from one of the country’s top regional fine art auction houses in Machynlleth on Friday.
The team from Halls in Shrewsbury held the charity antiques valuation day at The White Lion Hotel from 10am to 2pm, raising £111 for Future Play towards a new £100,000 children’s playground for the town.
Attending the event were James Forster, head of Halls’ pictures department; Maryanne Lineker-Mobberley, head of the silver and jewellery department; and Alexander Clement, Asian art specialist.
Miss Lineker-Mobberley took in for auction two silver-mounted scent bottles valued at around £300, which were part of much larger collection.
Mr Clement took in four desk stands valued at £300 and agreed to visit the owner to value the remainder of his large collection.
“We were delighted by the support for the valuation event and the money raised for Future Play,” said Mr Clement. “We met more than one individual with significant collections that would be very exciting to consign to auction.
“We shall be returning to the Machynlleth area soon and are happy to arrange home visits to view collections.”
