Antisocial camping is spoiling Snowdonia and threatening wildlife, the national park authority has said.

Snowdonia National Park Authority has issued an appeal to visitors to use campsites after finding tents and rubbish left behind.

"Since travelling restrictions were lifted in Wales we have seen a significant increase in antisocial camping in tents, campervans and motorhomes in our laybys, on roadsides and open spaces," the authority said.

"Antisocial camping often means no toilet facilities which poses a threat to public health.

"Antisocial camping in undesignated areas impairs other people’s quiet enjoyment of the National Park.

"Litter and equipment is often left behind which endangers wildlife and is detrimental to the environment.

"Camp fires can get out of control with devastating effects on habitats.

"Antisocial camping does not contribute to our economy."

They added: "Our National Park is a sensitive area, where people live and work. Please help us protect it, and support local businesses by camping in official campsites. If campsites are full – then please delay your visit."
