RESIDENTS living in two villages near Lampeter are having to endure “appallingly slow” broadband provision, it was claimed this week.
Internet users in Llanfair Clydogau and Cellan say they are frustrated at seeing no improvement to the service following a series of road closures in the area due to BT works.
“We have delays, delays and more delays,” Llanfair Clydogau councillor Alan Leech told the Cambrian News.
In a letter to Martin Jones, BT’s NGA programme manager Wales, Cllr Leech said: “We have experienced over the past 12 months a number of days of road closures as new poles were erected everywhere, channels were dug and then the new cables covered over, and miles of overhead fibre cables installed,” he said.
“I have travelled around this morning looking for areas where there is no fibre hanging from and between posts and I cannot locate any. Hence, I am at a loss to understand where and why you are planning {more} road closures and civil engineering work.
“BT has spent many tens of thousands of pounds in our telephone exchange area in the last year, but is deriving no financial benefit from its investment.
“Nothing is joined up. Your customers cannot understand why. You have not told us the reason for the inaction and delay. We really need to know more.”
In his reply, Mr Jones said the company was planning to introduce FTTP - Fibre to the Premise – technology to the area in order to increase broadband speed.
