AN appeal for volunteers has been launched to support the work of Popham Kidney Support. Dwyfor Meirionnydd MS, Mabon ap Gwynfor is issued the appeal after finding out more about Popham, who provide peer support for people living with kidney disease in Wales.
Marking World Kidney Day, Mabon ap Gwynfor MS joined peer mentors in the Senedd to raise awareness of the vital work the charity does in providing children, youths and adults with kidney disease, with the support needed to lead a better quality of life.
Having expanded its services across north Wales, the charity is on the lookout for volunteers to provide peer support to kidney patients in Gwynedd and are keen to hear from anyone interested in supporting their work.
Mr ap Gwynfor MS said: "Many of us know someone who is living with a kidney condition and for many it is life altering. However, thanks to the work of organisations like Popham Kidney Support, their needs are always at the top of the agenda.
"I was delighted to meet-up with the team from Popham Kidney Support at the Senedd ahead of World Kidney Day, and talk to Darren, a peer mentor, about his work supporting kidney patients across Wales – we need more people like him.
"It was encouraging to hear that the charity has expanded its work across north Wales and are on the lookout for volunteers to support its peer mentoring activities in Gwynedd. "What this means is that they are looking for people who have knowledge from their own experiences with a kidney condition to share their knowledge and experience with other sufferers. "So, if you or someone you know would like to get involved in providing peer support, whether over the phone, face to face, via messaging, through group meetings or through other public engagement events, then please contact Popham."
