AN appeal has been launched to raise £1,400 to save a collection of architectural drawings for an historic Llanystumdwy mansion.

The drawings belong to Plas Gwynfryn, which was once the home of Conservative MP Hugh Ellis-Nanney.

It was built in the early 16th century and is currently derelict after a fire gutted the building in 1982.

The building was struck by fire again in 2014 when arsonists caused 20 per cent fire damage to the building.

Dr Mark Baker, of Love My Wales, is concerned that the full set of 40 original drawings, which date from 1875 when the house was rebuilt by the Ellis-Nanney family, could be split up and lost unless they are purchased.

Dr Baker said: “Love My Wales is trying to raise £1,400 to save a collection of architectural drawings for Plas Gwynfryn in Llanystumdwy.

“We are asking for donations of £35 to help save this collection for the Welsh nation.

“When we have raised the monies required, the drawings will be deposited with the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales to celebrate their move to the National Library of Wales during summer 2016.”
