A PETITION calling for UK legislation to stamp out child sex abuse images on the internet, launched by the family and campaigners in the name of murdered Machynlleth schoolgirl April Jones, has received thousands of new signatures this week after a fresh appeal.

Campaigners behind the petition calling on the UK Prime Minister to introduce an April’s Law renewed an appeal for signatures - with 17 September marking three years since the petition was launched.

Five-year-old April (pictured) was murdered by paedophile Mark Bridger after being abducted from outside her home in October 2012.

Calls for a clampdown on access to child sex abuse images were made by April’s mother Coral, who met with Sara Payne, a high-profile campaigner against paedophiles following the murder of her daughter Sarah.

The campaign has since managed to gather thousands of signatures, with official Twitter and Facebook pages and a website.

As renewed appeals for support were made on Monday, the petition gathered over 2,900 signatures in just over 24 hours. Campaigners are hoping that renewed appeals will see the petition gather 100,000 signatures.

Launched by Coral three years ago, the campaign hopes for a “change in the images you can find on search engines”, she said.

“We want a law against people putting these images on the internet. We want to do it in April’s name. If we can save one child, then it will have been worth it.”
