I wish to comment on the 24-hours-a-day lights on the top deck of Tesco’s car park in Aberystwyth, as featured on the front page of your edition of 22 December.

When this development was promoted by Ceredigion County Council as being a boon to the town, great emphasis was placed on the environmentally friendly nature of the construction.

I believe that the standard covers not only the construction of the building but the way it is subsequently operated. I will ask BREEAM if a failure to incorporate a photocell to turn off outside lights is compatible with their standard.
