A FORMER Ysgol Penglais school pupil has exhibited her work after she won a prestigious art scholarship at a London college last year.
Art student Cara Rainbow, 26, who grew up and went to primary school in Ysbyty Ystwyth before attending Penglais School, is exhibiting her work at Morley College until 1 October.
This came after Cara was awarded the Alfred Teddy Smith and Zsuzsi Roboz Scholarship last year, as reported in the Cambrian News, an award given to a figurative artist of promise.
Cara graduated with a degree in fine art with first class honours from Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2013, and was presented with the Elke Lacey Textiles award.
Her exhibition, City Storeys and Folk Tails, is described by the college as “a multidisciplinary, mixed media exhibition inspired by human resilience in the face of change and challenge”.
Drawing inspiration from her memories of growing up near Aberystwyth, her subsequent move to London and the contrasting landscapes and cultures of the two, Cara said she explores the points where these worlds intersect and tries to make sense of how they differ and coexist.
“I grew up in a green landscape and my childhood was spent running through the forests with my friends and building dens,” said Cara, explaining how her childhood features heavily in her work.
“I now live in London, which is the complete opposite, and even after eight years I am still trying to make sense of my surroundings."
