A pair of Ceredigion artists are inviting people to an Aberystwyth hotel room this weekend as they recreate one of the most famous stunts for peace.

It is 50 years since John Lennon and Yoko Ono held two week-long Bed-Ins for Peace, one at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam and one at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth in Montreal.

Now couple Stuart Hampton and Joanna Bond – both artists – will recreate the event to mark its half century.

They will spend two hours on Saturday in bed at the Marine Hotel in Aberystwyth.

Stuart told the Cambrian News: “We are doing this because we feel that John and Yoko’s original ideas and philosophy for the bed-in are just as relevant today as they were back in 1969.

“Peace and Love never stop being a good thing to promote and encourage in our world.

“We feel that it was a great moment in history that is worth celebrating and commemorating.

“We are so pleased that the Marine Hotel is backing the event and that we can re-imagine this historic moment in time here in Wales.

“John and Yoko originally urged others to stay in bed and grow their hair for peace so we are honouring their original wishes by peacefully staging a bed-in of our own.”

Stuart said he has “always been a huge fan of the Beatles” and has performed their songs in venues around Aberystwyth.

“In my heart I truly support the ideals that they were promoting,” he said.

“We hope that we can do John and Yoko justice and create an event that echoes the original atmosphere from the 1969 event.

The event will be held between 12pm and 2pm.
