A FORMER worker at Trawsfynydd power station spent almost 30 years working in an environment with large quantities of asbestos, an inquest heard.

In a statement prepared before his death to support his compensation claim Aneurin Evans described how the boilers were lagged with asbestos, pieces of which often fell off, and there were sometimes clouds of dust.

Mr Evans, of T? Uchaf, Llanfachreth, near Dolgellau, who worked at the plant from 1964 to 1993, was diagnosed with mesothelioma – cancer caused by asbestos – in August, 2016.

He died in St David’s Hospice, Llandudno, on 13 June, aged 80, and at a hearing in Ruthin, Joanne Lees, assistant coroner for North Wales East and Central, recorded a conclusion of death from an industrial disease.
