AN “ASTONISHING” garden has won an Aberdyfi resident a community award.

Pam Oliver, a tenant of Maesnewydd, Aberdyfi received the green award as part of Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd’s community star scheme recently.

Mrs Oliver was nominated by Raymond Hughes, liaison officer, after she took on the garden single-handedly when her husband developed Alzheimer’s and was no longer able to tend to the area as he had done previously.

Following Raymond’s visit to the property he was “astonished” by the condition of her garden.

The green-fingered enthusiast is said to have “a special gardening talent” and that “the work that she has done single handed is to be praised”.

Raymond added that in his career he has not seen a garden of this standard and that Mrs Oliver deserves to be recognised for looking after the garden and by doing this improving the image of Maesnewydd.

Mrs Oliver said that the garden is her haven to sit and have a couple of minutes’ rest and that her husband also gets a benefit of looking out of the window at the garden.
