A leading light of disability sport in Ceredigion is calling on county children and adults with learning disabilities to sign up to represent their country.

Lee Coulson, an award-winning coach across a variety of sports, delivers sports to children and adults with intellectual disabilities in and around Ceredigion.

Lee, from Penrhyncoch, wants to get as many people in the county involved in sport, and is urging athletes aged eight and over to consider participating in the Special Olympics National Games to be held in Liverpool in 2021.

“We have received correspondence from Special Olympics Wales who require definite numbers for participation by the end of January,” Lee told the Cambrian News.

“I would like to hold a meeting to register athletes and volunteers and to answer any questions we can about the Special Olympics.

“I have requested that a representative from Special Olympics Great Britain and also Special Olympics Brecon attend who have a wealth of knowledge about the competition.

“Athletes aged eight plus can participate in a variety of sports where they will represent Wales.

“This is a huge opportunity for children and adults in Ceredigion with intellectual disabilities to represent their country.”

There will be a meeting and registration evening on Monday, 27 January, between 5.30pm and 7pm at Plascrug Leisure Centre Sports Hall in Aberystwyth.

All athletes must be registered at the meeting.

Anyone interested needs to confirm attendance with a brief description (athlete, parent, volunteer etc) to [email protected] or text Lee on 07533 075075.
