A FIREFIGHTER who raised over £30,000 in memory of his prematurely-born son has won an award for his charity efforts.

Dylan Morris and his wife Sian, of Nefyn, tragically lost their son Tomos almost exactly a year ago on 3 October 2017 after he was born 12 weeks early.

Tomos was born in the early hours of 5 August 2017 after just 28 weeks in the womb and was immediately transferred to a specialist neonatal ward near Liverpool where he was placed in Intensive Care.

Following an “emotional rollercoaster” and several medical procedures, including a major operation at the nearby Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Tomos sadly passed away just days before he turned two months old.

Despite going through the “most challenging and difficult time in their lives”, Dylan and Sian transformed their grief into a force for good, and used it to organise and partake in a 83-mile cycle ride from Caernarfon to Arrowe Park Hospital, in the Wirral.

Their story and breathtaking courage touched the hearts of thousand of people and the bike ride, completed by a group of 45 people on 2 June 2018, raised well over £30,000 for Ronald Mcdonald House, an “invaluable” accommodation service for the families of young children who are forced to stay in hospital.

Dylan, 43, remembers holding Tomos as a new born baby who was “tiny enough to fit into my hand”.
