An Aberystwyth-born baker has completed a three-metre cake to celebrate St David’s Shopping Centre’s 10th anniversary in Cardiff.

The owner and creator of LetThemSeeCake, Gareth Davies was commissioned to make a cake for the anniversary and is currently on display for 10 days in the shopping centre. Shoppers can view the cake from the first floor, west of St David’s Food Court.

Originally from Bronant, Gareth is now a six-time award-winning Sugarcraft artist and judge, set designer and art director, and Saracino ambassador.

The 10-tier, 25kg cake took five weeks to create with the largest tier being 45 by 30 inches. Each tier contains tributes to the different events that St David’s has hosted over the last 10 years.

Gareth said: “I was so pleased to be asked to make this cake as there’s so many different elements to the cake. It was certainly quite a challenge in designing the 10 tiers and also the logistical feat of transporting it from our classroom in Victoria Park to St David’s.

“This is the largest cake we’ve completed at LetThemSeeCake and we hope to do more spectacular cakes in the future for big events.

“I’m very grateful to my team and would like to thank them for their love and support in installing the cake and working on bits of the cake with me.”
